About your GoTo Expert
Action4Youth is a Buckinghamshire based ambitious, proactive charity focused on driving forward the crucial youth agenda to transform lives for the better. Every child should have the opportunity to be heard, to be safe, and to succeed.
As a charity, we rely on the generosity of grant-giving organisations and individuals to enable us to deliver the following:
Policy and Change: We are leaders in the youth sector and actively engage with local government, the police, and other stakeholders to shape local policy and drive broader impact. Our annual conference is a crucial opportunity for key representatives from the wider charity and statutory sectors to come together to discuss and share ideas on how we can make an impact on young people's lives.
Intervention and Inspiration: We deliver a wide range of programmes, including holistic support for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people, as well as employability and enrichment programmes such as The Inspiration Programme, The Breakout Programme, and BOOST! We deliver national programmes such as The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Many participants are signposted to other Action4Youth programmes, on a pathway to opportunities they did not believe were possible because of disadvantage or disability.
Leadership and Training: We provide valuable leadership and training to our membership organisations, around 50 local voluntary youth groups, so that they can operate effectively to safeguard the young people of their communities. Courses include safeguarding, diversity and inclusion, health and safety and others.
Outdoor Learning: Additionally, we operate an outstanding outdoor learning centre, Caldecotte Xperience, in Milton Keynes, which offers a range of adventure learning activities that deliver measurable improvements in educational attainment and build teamwork, bonding and trust. It is the leading centre in the region for young people with complex needs, with SEND-trained staff and specialist equipment that enable those with disabilities to learn new skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Sophie moved to AVA from her previous secondary school to do a triple extended diploma in creative digital media studies. Before taking part in the Inspiration Programme, Sophie struggled with shyness and a lack of confidence. However, throughout the programme, she underwent a significant change, coming out of her shell and ultimately presenting to over 30 of her peers on a subject she was passionate about.

Not only did NCS give me the confidence to speak to girls, but it also gave me confidence to speak to everyone, and you realise that in different situations you have to speak in different ways. So when I was teaching at the mosque, I had to speak professionally, but when I was sitting with friends, I could speak more informally.

I liked the programme because it showed me that it’s okay to give orders at times, but also that I can change what I say to give direction and encourage others, rather than just telling them what to do. I learned this in the teamwork games and the classes that helped everyone to work things through.
